What is Hajj Badal?
Hajj Badal (حج البدل) refers to performing Hajj on behalf of another person who is unable to undertake the sacred pilgrimage themselves due to old age, illness, disability, or death. It is also sometimes called Hajj-e-Niyabah (حج النيابة).
This service is a blessing for those who:
Are elderly and physically too weak to travel.
Suffer from illness or disability that makes the journey impossible.
Have passed away without fulfilling their obligation of Hajj.
Wish to send someone to perform Hajj on their behalf, with full sincerity and correctness.
According to Islamic scholars, Hajj Badal is valid if the person performing Hajj has already completed their own obligatory Hajj first.
Evidence from Qur’an & Hadith
In it there are clear signs and the station of Abraham; whoever enters it becomes secure. Pilgrimage to the House is a duty owed to Allah by all who can make their way to it. As for those who refuse to follow His command, surely Allah does not stand in need of anything. (3:97)
